Combination to Shot

U10–U14 · 3 per group · 12 min

A 3-player passing combination that ends in a first-time finish. Teaches timing of the run and weighting the final pass into space. Great for U10–U14.

Setup

  • Use the area just outside the penalty box, about 25 × 20 yards, with a goal (and a goalkeeper if you have one).
  • Mark three cone spots in a triangle: one at the bottom (A), one to the left (B) and one to the right (C).
  • Groups of 3 with a supply of balls at A. Run two groups side by side on a big goal to keep everyone busy.

How it works

  1. Pass 1: A plays the ball in to B.
  2. Pass 2: B lays it across to C, then immediately runs forward into the space in front of goal.
  3. Pass 3: C plays the ball into B's path, not to their feet.
  4. Finish: B shoots first time.
  5. Rotate A → B → C → A after each rep so everyone passes, runs and finishes.

Coaching points

  • Time the run: B goes the moment pass 2 is played, not before.
  • Pass 3 into space, not feet. Weight it so the runner doesn't have to break stride.
  • Shoot first time: hips open, strike across the keeper toward the far post.

Progressions

  • Two-touch limit on passes 1 and 2, then one-touch.
  • Add a passive defender who tracks B's run.
  • Switch sides so players finish with both feet.
