Setup

  • Use half a pitch with a goal and keeper.
  • Three attackers start at halfway, with the ball in the middle. Two defenders start just outside the box.

How it works

  1. The middle attacker drives at the defenders with the ball.
  2. The two wide attackers sprint forward and wide to stretch the defence.
  3. When a defender commits, release the ball to the free wide player.
  4. The wide player squares it across for the far-post runner to finish.
  5. Attackers have 10 seconds to score. Swap groups after each attack.

Coaching points

  • Drive to commit defenders: make one of them step up to you.
  • Get width and stay onside. The wider you are, the bigger the gaps.
  • Finish the chance fast, before recovering defenders get back.

Progressions

  • Add a recovering defender who chases from halfway (3v3).
  • Reduce the time limit to 7 seconds.
  • Defenders who win it can counter to two small goals at halfway.
