Wall Pass (1-2) Past a Defender

Dribble at a defender, pass off a teammate and sprint past to get it back. The quickest way to beat a defender without dribbling. For U9–U14.

- A 25 × 20 yard channel with a 3-yard cone gate at the far end.
- One defender in the middle of the channel, one 'wall' player out to the side, and a line of attackers with balls at the start.
How it works
- The attacker dribbles straight at the defender to commit them.
- Pass 1: play it into the wall player just before the defender can tackle.
- Sprint past the defender on the other side the moment you pass.
- Pass 2: the wall player returns it first time into the space behind the defender.
- Collect it and dribble through the end gate. Rotate roles every few reps.
Coaching points
- Commit the defender first. If they don't step up, there's nothing to go around.
- Pass and go instantly: the run is what makes the 1-2 work.
- Return pass into space, ahead of the runner, not to their feet.
Progressions
- Defender starts passive, then goes full pressure.
- Wall player must play one-touch.
- Replace the end gate with a goal and finish instead.
